#4 FREELANCING

What is it?
Freelancing is where you, as a sole trader, provide a service to other businesses or individuals. Most of these jobs cannot be automated, however as it is mostly project base work, the freelancer is not tied down by one company and has control over their time and workload.

Who it’s best suited to?
Anyone who wants to be their own boss and in possession of skills that can be offered as a service to others. You will need to be organised and independant.

Examples of freelancing jobs:

#1 Web Design: Creating websites for e.g. offline businesses. This isn’t something that can be automated, but doing similar project based work from your laptop is a great way to give yourself time and freedom.
#2 Proofreading: Checking other people’s content for spelling mistakes etc. Again, not an automatable task but like web design it will give you the time and freedom.
#3 Teaching Languages: You can do this remotely by teaching one-on-one over skype, hosting webinars or creating podcasts / videos for each module. The latter is automatable as you can e.g. schedule these modules to be sent to your students at set intervals etc.
#4 Personal Trainer: You don’t necessarily have to spend your whole day in a gym to be a personal trainer. You can e.g. record you sessions and like with the language lessons, you can send them to your followers / email list at regular intervals.
#5 Recruitment Agency: If you are well connected in an a holiday resort for example, you could set up a website and start advertising jobs in the area for a commission or fixed price per recruit. Again not automatable but once set up it shouldn’t require that much input, especially as certain aspects such as receiving latest job offers from partners can be automated.

#5 EMAIL MARKETING

What is it?
As they say “the money is in the list” – and though email marketing is pretty old school compared to say facebook ads, this phrase is still true. In short, email marketing is a marketing strategy where you capture leads (i.e. take your target audience’s email address in return for content of value) and are then able to communicate with them giving further value (i.e. solution to their problems). With  each email, you build trust so that when you offer them your services or product they are more likely to spend money and buy stuff from you.

Who it’s best suited to?
The set up phase can be a little bit daunting so this would suit people who are happy to persevere through this phase, but once you’re sequences are all set up, delivering and being opened (yes, that’s a massive self high five moment!) it’ll only need very little input to maintain.

What is it?
If you have an area of expertise for example have been practicing as a vet for the past 5 years and write a tutorial on e.g. keeping your dog flea free, that is good value that you could sell. What is it?
In short running an online store, for which the most obvious example would be Amazon. It requires products to sell, setting up and promoting your online store. Who it’s best suited to?
If you have developed your own products e.g. a line of handmade clothing, it’s a very cost effective way of marketing them. As with writing an ebook for instance, you will need to promote your store so would work paired with one of the promotional techniques listed in this post.

#8 AFFILIATE MARKETING

What is it?
An advertising model where companies pay commission to other businesses who generate sales for their products/services. Affiliate marketers are often referred to a publishers as they tend to publish a lot of content on a regular basis to communicate with their followers or email list, to who they then offer affiliate products they have chosen to promote. What is great about affiliate marketing that it is a mutually beneficial relationship between the vendor, yourself and the customer as; you increase sales for the vendor, who in return gives you a cut, and the customer was made aware of a product they purchased to solve a problem in their lives e.g. downloaded an app that helps them keep track of their daily to-do’s etc.

Who it’s best suited to?
You don’t necessarily have to be a born salesman to become a good affiliate marketer, you just need to have good communication skills to build a relationship with your following/list, be genuine about the products you are promoting (i.e. don’t oversell) and genuinely have an interest in the topic your products are related to so that you can provide valuable content and advice in the area. Perks: you do the selling, and the service/product providers provides the customer service.

#9 SELL YOUR PHOTOS

What is it?
Taking good photos takes hard work. You invest in the expensive equipment required, take time and effort in hunting down the perfect shot and then editing them. It’s a shame to then have them a) sat on your camera, b) uploaded to your facebook for only your friends to see or c) selling exclusive rights to a company who hired you to take the pictures for a one-off price. By uploading them to stock photography sites, you are making your photos evergreen. Any business who comes across them and wishes to use them on their website or campaigns, can download for a small sum – and the beauty of online marketing is the numbers game. Lots of littles add up resulting in a pretty decent passive income from your photos.

Who it’s best suited to?
Professional photographers is the obvious one, but you don’t HAVE to be a professional photographer to take good pictures. If you have a keen eye for photography and take pictures as a hobby, why not try and monetize on this passion?

You’ll need a bit of common sense as well, as with all types of investments you’ve got to play it safe. #11 WEBINARS & ONLINE COURSES

What is it?
A webinar is an educational, informative or instructional presentation that is made available online and though the part takers can be anywhere in the world, they have to commit to tuning in at the specific time the webinar goes live. This is a good way to get engagement from your students, as if they have given up their free time to attend your webinar, they are clearly interested in what you have to say.
